Ahhh spring time! Whenever I think of the spring season, I always want to sing that little jingle that Willy Wonka sings in the chocolate factory!
“In spring time, the only pretty ring time, birds sing a-ding…a-ding a-ding sweet lovers love the spring.”
Ha ha….just me?…. crap. Anyways! SPRING! I love the spring! The entrance to summer and the end to the bitter winter cold! This means it’s time to trade in those bulky, some-what cute, puffy winter parkas and toques, and bust out the trendy denims pieces, cardigans and trendy colours!
I believe that everyone should own 3 fashion basics.
1) a black cardigan, either at waist length, or shin length. WHY? Why not? Black is such a staple colour to have at least one of everything in, for your wardrobe. You can pair black with any neon or pate colour. You can use a black cardigan to take a day time office look and turn it into a sexy night or with the girls look. Long cardigans especially work well with making many looks sophisticated for the office or a business date.
2) the perfect denim jacket that you can pair with almost every outfit. WHY? Again….why not? Lol. Denim jackets are a huge part of the wardrobe seasons for spring summer and fall! They can be used to create a grungy rocker look paired with your favourite sneakers, a dark pant and a rocking 80s rock band tee , a cute country sundress with an adorable pair of flats or heels, or dress it right up with a fitted pair of dress pants, a heel and a white blouse. You can do so much with a denim jacket!
3) a little black PURSE! Yes purse, not dress…although that’s important too but well save that for another post! WHY? Black purses scream “look at me I’m classy” without having to be that day. Use your black purse for a night on the town or a business meeting. Black has always been the definition of class and elegance. At least in my world they have been.
I’ve put together a tiny little look-book of ways to style those specific 3 different fashion items, in 3 different ways! Continue reading to find out how!
I paired this denim boho chic jacket that I bought online from Fashion Nova Curve, and with this adorable mauve/pink tunic dress and it made the perfect combination between business casual.
I’ve paired it with these super comfy peep-toe booties from Old Navy, and my favourite “little black purse” from Kate spade.
This outfit is perfect for a girls date night or a date night out with your special someone. It speaks casual with a touch of sass. Take the jacket off and you’re set for a comfy day at the office while still looking chic and fab! You could remove the tights (purchased from Sweet Legs) and turn this tunic dress into more of a sexy/classy outfit for a night out.
Outfit number 2 is my fav outfit to put together for the office. this outfit is one of my FAVS! There is nothing I love more than black and white paired together for a classic, classy touch for an outfit. I’ve paired this Old Navy knee length cardigan, with a basic white tank top, and black leggings to make for a comfy yet savy/business/classy look.
I’ve paired this outfit with the same Kate Spde purse and a new pair of booties! These chunky kitten heeled booties are from Spring! They’re leather booties with a cloth ankle sock and they are the cutest and comfiest things ever.
This last outfit is probably my favourite go to for a running around type of day. Using the same Fashion Nova denim jacket, I put a comfy pair of leggings, threw my hair half up so it’s out of my face, threw on my converse, and put on this comfy over-sized tie die hoodie and made, in my opinion, the cutest and comfiest lazy day outfit that you can still pass off as an actual optional outfit. Look… as a plus size girl, I find that SOMETIMES wearing jeans can be really annoying and more uncomfortable than ever. They look great at the start, and then my thundering thighs start to stretch them out, and then the waist band is loose and I already have to buy a size to fit my things instead of my waist, then they get baggy and I just can’t… so I wear actual pants or thick tights that look great with sweater dresses and long t-shirts.
I’ve already worn this exact outfit out and about, and its comfy, it’s a short sleeve sweater and the jacket is not heavy enough to be sweltering in, so this is my go-to errands outfit. Any sweater with a denim jacket is always a plus in my books. I love the fact that style these days has incorporated a lot more of the comfier side of things with addidas sneakers, converse, leggings and chunky sweaters. It’s probably my favourite style to get inspired by!
